More than a decade ago, a great outcry from the Salado community and a rallying effort saved this landmark built in 1924 from falling under the wrecking ball. Today, the old red schoolhouse -- as old timers in Salado still refer to it -- serves as the Salado Civic Center, a meeting facility that is one of the most sought after conference centers in central Texas.
